Mississippi TV, LLC / WTVA in Tupelo-Columbus, Mississippi, has an immediate opening for a Meteorologist/Multimedia Journalist.

Do you want to work with one of the best news and weather teams in the Southeast? WTVA-TV has an immediate opening for a full-time Meteorologist/MMJ. We are looking for a passionate, creative and driven professional to join our award-winning team. Tornado Alley has shifted to Mississippi. We need a storyteller that’s ready to cover and forecast tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, snow and ice in one of the busiest weather markets in the country. We have the latest weather technology and tools, including augmented reality capabilities to help you tell compelling weather stories both in the studio and out in the field. You’ll work with a talented team of dedicated journalists and meteorologists who work together to keep our communities informed and safe. You’ve got to be a team player to succeed in our newsroom.

The ideal candidate must be able to present clear, focused and accurate forecasts and be able to handle breaking weather and severe weather coverage in a calm, professional and reassuring manner. The position involves extreme f lexibility, including working whenever severe weather threatens our market. The MMJ part of this position involves field reporting. You’ll get the chance to develop your reporting and storytelling skills and you’ll showcase your work live in our daily newscasts. The position involves shooting, writing and editing news packages and stories for both broadcast and on our digital and social media platforms. The ideal candidate must embrace news reporting, keep up to date with national state and local news and be passionate about telling stories in our communities.

Minimum requirements include a BS/BA degree in meteorology, atmospheric science or equivalent.

A minor or emphasis in broadcast meteorology, communications or journalism is helpful.

A pre-employment background check and drug test is required.

The candidate must be licensed and insured to drive a vehicle.
