Morning Producer/MMJ - WTVA, Tupelo
Morning Producer/MMJ - WTVA, Tupelo
Are you a newsroom architect who loves the challenge of building a great newscast from the
ground up? We’re looking for a high-energy, creative and focused Morning Producer/MMJ to
join our team at WTVA in beautiful Northeast Mississippi. This is a critical role for someone
who thrives behind the scenes but has the storytelling chops to step in front of the camera when
the story demands it. If you’re a self-starter who values teamwork and wants to help shape the
morning conversation, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
Build the morning: Co-produce our weekend morning newscasts, crafting urgent,
viewer-focused rundowns that get Northeast Mississippi ready for the day.
Drive the weekday: Take the lead as a producer three days a week during our morning
shift, ensuring our coverage is fast, fair, and visually compelling.
Own the story: Use your MMJ skills to pitch, shoot, write, and edit content as
needed—bringing a producer’s eye to every story you tell.
Lead with digital: Think "digital-first" by breaking news on our app and social media,
ensuring our audience stays informed across every platform.
Step into the field: Be ready to report when news breaks, delivering authentic coverage
from where the story is happening.
Collaborate for impact: Work tightly with our anchors, reporters, and digital team to
ensure a cohesive and high-energy morning product.
Connect with the community: Help manage our presence on digital and streaming
platforms, engaging with our audience where they live.
What You Bring
The Credentials: A four-year degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
Producing Instincts: Strong news judgment and the ability to manage multiple moving
parts under tight morning deadlines.
Versatility: You’re primarily an off-camera powerhouse, but you have the reporting and
MMJ skills to jump into the field at a moment's notice.
Storytelling Chops: Excellent writing skills with a knack for conversational, high-
impact scripts for both broadcast and digital.
Technical Agility: Comfort with newsroom systems (like ENPS) and non-linear editing
software (we’ll coach you, but you’ve got to be ready to learn!).
A "Team-First" Attitude: You’re a great newsroom citizen who values collaboration
over ego and is ready to support the team in any capacity.
Coachability: You have a thick skin and a growth mindset—you welcome constructive
criticism and use it to level up your craft.
Why You'll Love It Here
The Location: Live in beautiful Northeast Mississippi with Ole Miss and Mississippi
State in your backyard (the heart of SEC country!). If you're looking for big city vibes,
Memphis, Birmingham, and Nashville are all just a quick road trip away.
Real Impact: You aren't just filling time; you're building the newscasts that our
community relies on to start their day.
Growth Culture: We are a newsroom that values coaching and mentorship. You won't
just be a producer; you'll be a partner in our success.
Innovation Focus: At WTVA, we’re evolving on purpose. You’ll have the tools and the
freedom to experiment with new ways of producing and storytelling.
Ready to help build the future of morning news? Let’s create something amazing together.
