Weekend Morning Meteorologist
Weekend Morning Meteorologist/MMJ - Tupelo, MS
Do you have a passion for the science of weather and the heart of a storyteller? Are you
the kind of person who can track a storm system with precision and then pivot to telling
a compelling story about the community it affects? We’re looking for a Weekend
Morning Meteorologist/MMJ who can own the weather desk on Saturdays and Sundays
and hit the streets as a multimedia storyteller three days a week. In Tupelo, weather is
more than just a forecast—it’s a lifeline—and we need someone who leads with
urgency, accuracy, and a digital-first mindset.
What You'll Do
Own the weekend morning forecast: Deliver high-energy, accurate, and easy-
to-understand weather segments across TV, streaming, and social platforms
every Saturday and Sunday.
Master the MMJ craft: Spend three days a week in the field—pitching, shooting,
writing, and editing compelling stories that resonate with our local audience.
Forecast for every season: Tackle the full spectrum of Mississippi
weather—from tracking winter snow and ice to leading coverage during high-
stakes tornado outbreaks, flash floods, and even the challenges of extreme
drought.
Lead with digital urgency: Be the first to update our weather app, social feeds,
and website when conditions change—because weather happens in the palm of
the hand first.
Execute live multi-platform coverage: Stay calm and authoritative during
severe weather events, providing life-saving information across all screens.
Connect with the community: Represent the station at local events and build
authentic relationships with viewers (yes, you’ll be the person everyone asks
about the rain!).
Collaborate across the newsroom: Work closely with producers and digital
staff to ensure our weather and news content is cohesive and impactful.
What You Bring
The right credentials: A Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology is required. A minor
or emphasis in Communications? Even better—we want someone who can
translate science into great TV.
Entry-level energy: You’re ready to launch your career and hit the ground
running. We’ll provide the platform; you provide the hustle.
Scientific curiosity: You’re excited by a market that sees it all—snow,
tornadoes, floods, and everything in between—and you have the skills to forecast
it accurately.
Killer on-camera presence: You connect authentically with viewers and can
explain the "why" behind the weather, not just the "what."
Multi-platform mindset: You’re as comfortable going live on Facebook or TikTok
as you are on the morning news.
Technical scrappiness: You’re eager to master the camera, edit your own
stories, and navigate weather graphics systems like a pro. WSI experience is a
plus!
Urgency and empathy: You understand the weight of severe weather and can
communicate with both authority and care.
Why You'll Love It Here
The ultimate weather classroom: You won't get bored here. From snow to
tornadoes, you’ll gain experience forecasting every major weather event
imaginable.
The perfect launchpad: This is an entry-level role designed to give you the best
of both worlds—honing your weather skills while becoming a versatile, modern
journalist.
Real-world impact: In a weather-active market like Tupelo, your work directly
helps keep your neighbors safe and informed.
Supportive culture: We’re a team that celebrates wins, supports growth, and
actually enjoys working together.
Ready to launch your career, track the storm, and tell the story? Let’s create
something amazing together.
