Sports Multimedia Journalist
Sports Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) -
WTVA, Tupelo
Are you a visual storyteller who lives for the Friday night lights and the roar of an SEC
Saturday? We’re looking for a high-energy, creative and focused Sports Multimedia Journalist
to join our expanding sports team at WTVA in beautiful Northeast Mississippi. This isn't just a
job—it’s a front-row seat in the heart of SEC country. With Ole Miss and Mississippi State in our
backyard, we don't just cover sports; we own the conversation. If you’re a sports junkie who isn’t
afraid to get your hands dirty to tell amazing stories, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
Own the game: Pitch, shoot, write, and edit compelling sports content daily for
broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms.
Report where it happens: Go live from the sidelines, the locker room, or the field,
delivering urgent and authentic coverage from the heart of the action.
Command the desk: Step into the studio to anchor sports segments and newscasts with
authority, energy, and a deep knowledge of the local sports landscape.
Lead with digital: Think "digital-first" by breaking scores, highlights, and recruiting
news on our app and social media before the whistle even blows.
Cover the best: Provide top-tier coverage of everything from high school powerhouses
to SEC giants like Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Build your roster: Develop deep contacts with coaches, players, and athletic directors to
uncover the stories no one else is telling.
Connect with Northeast Mississippi: Engage with our passionate fanbases where they
live—on our digital platforms, social media, or face-to-face at the stadium.
Collaborate for impact: Work as a team player within our expanding sports department
to ensure our coverage is fast, fair, and the best in the market.
What You Bring
The Credentials: A four-year degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
Sports Junkie Mindset: A deep passion for sports and the ability to tell the human story
behind the box score.
On-Air Presence: Confidence and charisma both in the field and behind the anchor desk.
Storytelling Chops: Excellent writing and communication skills with a knack for
conversational, high-impact scripts.
Technical Agility: Comfort operating multimedia equipment and non-linear editing
software (we’ll coach you, but you’ve got to be ready to hit the ground running!).
A "Team-First" Attitude: You’re a great newsroom citizen who values collaboration
over ego and isn't afraid of the hard work sports coverage demands.
Coachability: You have a thick skin and a growth mindset—you welcome constructive
criticism and use it to level up your game.
Digital Fluency: You live and breathe social media and understand how to spark
engagement with fans in real-time.
Why You'll Love It Here
The Location: Live in the heart of SEC country in beautiful Northeast Mississippi with
Ole Miss and Mississippi State in your backyard. If you're looking for big city vibes,
Memphis, Birmingham, and Nashville are all just a quick road trip away!
Sports Excellence: Join a team that does sports well and is actively expanding. You’ll
have the platform to cover high-stakes college and high school athletics every single day.
Real Impact: We don't just report scores; we tell stories that celebrate our communities
and the athletes who inspire them.
Growth Culture: We are a newsroom that values coaching and mentorship. You won't
just be a reporter; you'll be a partner in our success.
Ready to join the best sports team in Northeast Mississippi? Let’s create something
