Anchor/Producer/MMJ - WTVA, Tupelo
Anchor/Producer/MMJ - WTVA, Tupelo
Are you a versatile journalist who loves the thrill of doing it all? We’re looking for a high-
energy, creative and focused Anchor/Producer/MMJ to join our team at WTVA in beautiful
Northeast Mississippi. This is a unique opportunity to own the weekend mornings from the
anchor desk and the producer's chair, while hitting the streets as an MMJ during the week. If
you’re a self-starter who thrives on variety and wants to tell stories that actually make a
difference in our community, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
Command the weekend: Anchor our weekend morning newscasts with authority,
warmth, and a deep connection to our Northeast Mississippi audience.
Build the show: Take the lead as a producer for your weekend shifts, crafting urgent,
viewer-focused rundowns that set the tone for the day.
Own the story: Work three days a week on the morning shift as an MMJ—pitching,
shooting, writing, and editing compelling content for all platforms.
Lead with digital: Think "digital-first" by breaking news on our app and social media
before the cameras even start rolling.
Report where it happens: Go live from the field during your reporting shifts, delivering
authentic coverage right from the heart of the story.
Connect with the community: Engage with our audience where they are—whether
that’s on our digital and streaming platforms, social media, or face-to-face in the
community.
Collaborate for impact: Work tightly with our morning team to ensure our coverage is
fast, fair, and meaningful across every shift.
What You Bring
The Credentials: A four-year degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
Versatility: You’re comfortable shifting gears from anchoring and producing to reporting
in the field without missing a beat.
On-Air Presence: Confidence and charisma behind the anchor desk and a natural,
conversational delivery in the field.
Producing Instincts: Strong news judgment and the ability to build a cohesive, engaging
newscast from scratch.
Storytelling Chops: Excellent writing skills with a knack for conversational, impactful
scripts for both broadcast and digital.
Technical Agility: Comfort operating multimedia equipment and non-linear editing
software (we’ll coach you, but you’ve got to be ready to learn!).
A "Team-First" Attitude: You’re a great newsroom citizen who values collaboration
over ego.
Coachability: You have a thick skin and a growth mindset—you welcome constructive
criticism and use it to level up.
Why You'll Love It Here
The Location: Live in beautiful Northeast Mississippi with Ole Miss and Mississippi
State in your backyard (the heart of SEC country!). If you're looking for big city vibes,
Memphis, Birmingham, and Nashville are all just a quick road trip away.
Real Impact: We don't just report the news; we tell stories that change lives and
strengthen our communities.
Growth Culture: We are a newsroom that values coaching and mentorship. You won't
just be a number; you'll be a partner in our success.
Innovation Focus: At WTVA, we’re evolving on purpose. You’ll have the tools and the
freedom to experiment with new ways of storytelling.
